SUNDAY STRUGGLES: Being on a No Buy

My constantly growing makeup collection which is super disorganized and pretty cramped

I mentioned it on my twitter once or twice but I am currently on a very unsuccessful no buy. What exactly is a no buy? The definition is what you'd think it is - where I don't buy any makeup. But with Ulta and Sephora being pretty close to my house, I find it really difficult to go there and only get what I need. I'm admitting it right now, I have a problem. It's a little scary how my makeup collection has expanded from one travel pouch to two baskets, 4 cups, and a plastic bin in the span of 5 months.

I decided to go on this no buy not only to curb my rampant spending but to also use all my current products a lot more than I have been using them. For example, I have probably 15 different eyeliners in one of my baskets, yet I repeatedly use my black or nude eyeliners. I want to challenge myself to try different looks with what I already have as a way to diversify my makeup looks and to actually use the things that I have.

The terms I put on myself were that I would not buy any new makeup or new products from August 20th to September 20th. September 25th is my birthday, so I wanted to splurge on a palette or some new products that I've been eyeing for quite a while. Then I'd go back on a no buy for the month of October so I could be nice and rich for Sephora's friends and family sale at the beginning of November! A plan that was amazing when I made it, and terrible when I put it into action.

I started running low on my foundation about a week into my no buy and that was basically a tragedy waiting to happen so of course I went to Ulta to buy foundation... and a few other things. Long story short, my no buy was obliterated thanks to liking literally everything I saw and my friend Ashlii telling me I should buy new stuff... I loved all the products I got, but they would have been so much more satisfying if I had just finished my no buy. I went to Ulta again two days ago and was MUCH better at only getting what I need, mostly because my buyers guilt kicked in even before I picked the product up off the shelf.

It seems like a weird problem to have but anyone that loves makeup understands where I'm coming from. There are just so many products out there that I want to try out and test and have in my collection but... I'm running out of space, and quite frankly, I don't need more than what I have. That being said, I'm still super excited to get a ton of stuff during my birthday week because every now and then you gotta treat yo'self.
